For teachers
Mappari is a free set of map quizzes. No account, no sign-up, no ads, and nothing is collected about whoever is playing. It works on a classroom tablet, a Chromebook or an interactive whiteboard, and every quiz is a plain link you can put in a lesson plan or an assignment.
What it covers
- 196 sovereign countries, by continent or all at once.
- All 50 US states, with capitals.
- Five ways to be asked: find it on the map, name the highlighted one, match the capital, match the flag, or race a 60-second clock.
What it does not do
- No account and no login. A pupil opens a link and plays. Nothing to provision.
- No advertising. Nothing is shown to a class that you did not choose to show them.
- No personal data. Scores and streaks are kept in the browser on the device and are never sent anywhere. There is no sign-in, so there is nothing to tie a score to a child.
- No downloads. Worksheets print from the browser.
Printable worksheets
Each one is a reference list of names and capitals plus a blank version to fill in. Print from the browser; the page strips the site chrome and starts each sheet on a fresh page.
- World (196)
- Africa (54)
- Asia (48)
- Europe (45)
- North America (23)
- South America (12)
- Oceania (14)
- US States (50)
Using it in a lesson
- Practice: set a continent quiz as ten questions, then the same continent as a full round once they are quicker.
- Reference: every country and state has a page with a map of where it is, its capital and its neighbours — countries, US states.
- Homework: the blank worksheet, marked against the reference sheet.
Accessibility and classroom devices
Choice questions can be answered with the number keys 1–4, and Esc returns to the menu. Small countries and states get an enlarged tap target, so Monaco and Rhode Island are as clickable on a tablet as Brazil and Texas. There is a light and a dark theme. It runs in any modern browser with no plugins.
Where the borders come from
Boundaries are drawn from Natural Earth public-domain data, and US state boundaries from the US Census Bureau. Quizzes ask only about sovereign states and the 50 states; territories and dependencies are drawn on the map but never asked about. Depiction of any border implies no endorsement of a territorial claim.
Cost
Free, and there is no paid tier to upgrade to.
